Can Chiropractic Help with Neck Pain?

Q: Can you help with my neck pain?

Yes, and honestly, neck pain is one of the things I see most in my practice.

Most of the time it’s not a mystery. People sit at a computer for hours, spend half the day looking down at their phone, or they’re just carrying a lot of stress. Sometimes it’s something like a whiplash injury. Whatever the cause, what tends to happen is the joints in your neck get stiff and jammed up, and the muscles around them grip down trying to protect the area. That combination is what leaves you sore, tight, and struggling to turn your head without wincing.

What I do is pretty straightforward. I work to get those joints moving again. When I do a gentle adjustment, I’m essentially unlocking that stiffness so the joint can move the way it’s designed to. Once that happens, the muscles don’t have to guard anymore, the inflammation starts to settle, and most people feel a real difference pretty quickly.

I don’t just crack and send you on your way, though. I want to know why your neck got that way in the first place. That might mean showing you a couple of stretches, talking about how you’re sitting at your desk, or working on some of the muscle tension directly. The goal isn’t just to get you out of pain today — it’s to keep it from coming back next month.

A lot of my patients choose chiropractic care because they’d rather not take medication if they don’t have to. I get that. My approach is completely drug-free, and for most neck pain, it works really well.

That said, I don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach. Before I do anything, I sit down with you, find out what’s going on, and make sure chiropractic care is actually the right fit. If it’s not, I’ll tell you, and I’ll point you in the right direction. If your neck is bothering you, come in and let me take a look — it’s usually very treatable, and you don’t have to just live with it.
